A Little About Me¶
Hi, I'm Lara Sitruk! I’m a Dutch-French artist currently based in beautiful Portugal. I feel like I've lived many lives traveling the globe, working across different industries, and crossing paths with so many fascinating people. Everywhere I go, I collect experiences, stories, and impressions, and these ultimately find their way into my artwork.
Where to Find Me¶
After eight wonderful years in Amsterdam, I relocated to Coimbra in central Portugal last year. I was craving more nature, a tighter community, and deeper artistic connections. When I'm not in my studio working on new projects you can often find me at local art markets.
I'd love to meet you! Come say hi at one of my upcoming events:
- Coimbra Hype Market / 23 May 2026 / 10:00 - 19:00 / Casa-Museo Bissaya Barreto
Sharing Is Caring¶
As much as I love getting fully immersed in my studio for a new project, I’m equally passionate about sharing the joy of art with others! Whether we're collaborating on a piece, playing creative games to break out of our usual framing, or learning together in a workshop, I love helping people tap into their creativity.
Growing up, I was surrounded by crafts. I learned macramé from my mother, weaving (my grandmother had a massive loom!), lino cutting inspired by my grandparents, and picked up painting, crochet, knitting, sewing, and embroidery along the way. I believe that learning a craft doesn't just result in beautiful, unique creations; even more importantly, I find it also brings mindfulness and builds self-confidence.
You’re welcome to join my upcoming workshops. Just drop me a message to save your spot!
Looking for something more personal? I also host private workshops for groups or individuals. Reach out, and let's plan something special!
My Art¶
Combining Materials¶
As a multidisciplinary artist, I thrive on exploring new mediums, materials, and textures. I love experimenting and playing, letting my imagination run wild with every new discovery. This exploration makes me feel free.. a kid again, where mistakes and imperfections are just part of the learning adventure. Anything goes, nothing is a failure or a waste of time since the journey and experience is what truly matters.
While paper and black ink are my classic go-to materials, I love incorporating watercolors, acrylics, lino cuts, and stamps to build unique textures, colors, and effects. For me, the magic happens when I mix techniques to create something entirely new.
Making Something from Scratch¶
Even as a young girl, I would sketch marvelous dresses straight from my imagination. The very first piece of clothing I ever bought for myself was a pair of golden pants with an intricate purple embroidery pattern. I still remember how wearing them made me feel, which was the moment I realized clothing is a powerful form of artistic expression.
Today, sewing, embroidering, and upcycling clothes are some of my greatest passions. It always amazes me how a pop of color, a clever design shift, or a small embroidered detail can drastically transform a look and tell a brand-new story.

Mission¶
Nature Love¶
My deep love and respect for nature are woven directly into my art. Many of my creations feature an imaginary animal world, which is my way of showing admiration for the natural world that has always been a refuge for me through both happy and challenging times.
I do my best to embrace a vegan and low-waste lifestyle, celebrating the beauty of the animals, insects, plants, and trees around us. This mindset has sparked even deeper creativity in my life, whether I'm in the kitchen experimenting with a new vegan recipe or in my studio breathing new life into discarded materials.
Upcycling¶
When I was little, my eyes were always glued to the ground, searching for hidden treasures. I’d build tiny characters out of scrap metal I found on the street or twigs and flowers from the forest. Later, while living in Amsterdam, I would rescue discarded furniture and frames, painting them to give them a second life. Now, here in Portugal, my favorite way to upcycle is taking vintage clothing and transforming it with hand embroidery or a fresh pass on my sewing machine.
Sustainability¶
My dedication to the earth means I strive to maintain a sustainable workspace. I ensure that both my art and its packaging are as eco-friendly as possible. This commitment is a core pillar of Lazomi, as staying aligned with my values is what allows my creative work to truly thrive.
